Venezuelan President participates in event with members of the country’s feminist movements on the evening of Friday (2.Aug)
Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro (United Socialist Party of Venezuela, left) summoned women to “silence a new Guaidó”. The Chavista participated in an event on the evening of this Friday (2.Aug.2024) with members of feminist movements in the country.
“We dismantled and prevented a cyber and criminal coup d’état, these are the two characteristics. A coup d’état organized by the United States that intended to tarnish and ignore the electoral process. I really like that we took the mask off the US government again. And I have to say that there is a new Guaidó for Venezuela. Are you women going to silence a new Guaidó in Venezuela?” said Maduro, being answered with shouts of “let’s go”.
The Chavista’s speech refers to Juan Guaidó, who became known worldwide when, in 2019, then president of the National Assembly, he declared himself interim president of Venezuela, contesting the legitimacy of Maduro’s government. At the time, the United States and countries of the European Union recognized Guaidó as interim president.
However, he was unable to gain effective control of the country and, in 2023, he left Venezuela and went to Miami (USA), where he is in exile and supports Maduro’s current opposition leader, Edmundo González Urrutia (Democratic Unitary Platform, center-right).
At the event on Friday (2 August), the Venezuelan leader also called González a “male chauvinist”, “misogynistic”, “fascist” It is “racist”.
“This Mr. González Urrutia, who thinks and speaks so badly about Venezuelan women, is so sexist and misogynistic, fascist and racist”she said, once again calling on women to oppose their political rival.
According to the opposition, voting receipts made public on a website prove that González received 67% of the votes, while Maduro received 30%.
However, the numbers presented by opponents differ from the official figures presented by the CNE (National Electoral Council), which did not release the electoral records. The electoral body states that the Chavista won the election with 51.95% of the votes against González’s 43.18%.
