McLaren continues to push
Since when the McLaren provided the updated car to both drivers (Imola) has scored more points than Red Bull in every weekend except Montmeló. The gap in the constructors’ championship has now been reduced to 42 points, and if they don’t make a significant performance shift in Milton Keynes the gap could soon close.
McLaren cares about the team title, also because the drivers’ title is more difficult (but not impossible). To achieve it, the Woking team has planned some developments in several of the ten race weekends available.
Stella’s words
“It looks like we are now in a position to take advantage of some of the developments we have accumulated in the field. I expect that for the second part of the season we will have, at various points, some new parts.“, commented team principal Andrea Starfresh from contract renewal. “In a way, I’m surprised that we were so competitive, considering that we haven’t brought many new parts to the track since Miami. This means that the Florida update was important, but there are more that will come in the second part of the season“.
Finally, the Umbrian team principal is not worried about Lando Norris’ performance under pressure, an aspect that is greatly penalising the British rider in the fight for the title: “The reality is that no one has a perfect weekend. I think we are quite satisfied with the level of consistency and solidity that we have as a team: our drivers are the only ones who have scored points in every race weekend. We have been on the podium for ten grands prix and there are many opportunities to do better, but the general picture to underline is that of a very strong and consistent team.“.
