The Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix it was first held in 1951 as an official world championship race, occupying a permanent place in the calendar since 1986.
Since 1991 it has been raced on the Catalonia circuit in Montmeló near Barcelona and is organized by the RACC (Real Automovil Club de Cataluña). The first Spanish Grand Prix was held on the city circuit of Pedralbes in Barcelona in 1951, and the second edition was held in Pedralbes again, in 1954. From 1968 onwards the circuits of Jarama, near Madrid, and Montjuich, the latter also located in a Barcelona park. Subsequently, from 1986 to 1990, before returning to the Catalan city with the new Montmeló circuit, the car race was organized in Jerez de la Frontera, in Andalusia.
