Player arrived at the court from the back, without going through journalists, according to the Spanish press
The trial of football player Daniel Alves begins this Monday (Feb 5, 2024) at the Barcelona Provincial Court. He is accused of sexually assaulting a young woman at the Sutton Club nightclub, in Spain, on December 30, 2022.
Daniel arrived at the scene through the back, without going past journalists, according to the Spanish press. The newspaper La Vanguardia reported that the player's lawyer asked him to give a statement at the end of the trial, after hearing the victim, witnesses and experts.
The athlete was preventively arrested in January 2023, after giving a statement at a police station in the city of Catalonia about the accusation. The victim, aged 23, stated that Daniel Alves even attacked her by slapping her in the face. Genetic analyzes indicated traces of the player's sperm on the woman's body and clothes.
The Spanish Public Ministry asks for 9 years in prison for Daniel and accuses him of sexual assault with penetration. The agency also asks the Brazilian to pay compensation to the victim of €150,000 for the “physical and psychological consequences” and hair “moral damages suffered”.
PRISON
In January, Alves was summoned by the Catalan police to give a statement and left the police station in a vehicle.
The player was taken to court for a custody hearing, in which the judge assessed whether the athlete would be released, order precautionary measures or order the player's provisional arrest.
The accusation was made 2 days after the alleged assault, on January 2, 2023. The victim, a 23-year-old woman, stated that Alves had touched her under her underwear without her consent while she was with some friends at the Sutton Club nightclub.
The young woman notified the nightclub days later about the episode. The local police were then called and the victim was taken to a reference hospital for victims of sexual crimes in Barcelona.
