independent Medellin tied 2-2 with The National, of Ecuador, at the Rodrigo Paz Delgado stadium, in Quito, in the first leg of the second preliminary phase of the Libertadores Cup 2023.
The reds took the lead with a goal from Éver Valencia, after 19 minutes, after an assist from Luciano Pons. The goal took time to get on the scoreboard, because the VAR reviewed a possible offside by the Argentine.
Then, goalkeeper Andrés Mosquera Marmolejo saved a penalty from Jerry Parrales, in the 50th minute, after a handball from Andrés Cadavid. Five minutes later, Byron Palacios tied the game.
A new penalty, after another handball in the DIM area, allowed Ronie Carrillo to score 2-1 for El Nacional, but in the end, Daniel Londoño took advantage of a rebound for the final tie, in the 87th minute.
The second leg will be on the first of March, at 7 pm, at the Atanasio Girardot stadium.
