The textile multinational proposes to homogenize the conditions of its employees to end the important differences that exist between territories and social improvements such as aid for children, nursery or university
The more than 25,000 workers that Inditex has in its stores in Spain, whatever the brand they operate under, will be guaranteed a uniform minimum wage for all territories. This has been proposed by the multinational founded by Amancio Ortega at the state negotiation table that it maintains open with the UGT and CC OO unions to address salary improvements for their dependents.
The amount of this salary has yet to be determined, but the textile group’s proposal involves standardizing conditions through guaranteed minimum fixed annual salaries, which will also be completed with variable remuneration based on the sales participation system, a system that The company also intends to lead towards a greater homogenization, independent of the territory and the brand, although for the moment it has not presented a concrete proposal.
Inditex, despite having more than 145,000 workers in Spain, does not have its own agreement and their salaries are governed by the provincial agreements of the sector, which generates significant differences between store employees depending on the region in which they carry out their activity. Thus, when these minimum wages established in each agreement are lower than the one set for the entire group, the company will pay this difference.
But in addition to higher salaries, Inditex also intends to advance in social improvements. Thus, it has shown its willingness to pay aid for dependents, for the birth of a child, for school supplies, university enrollment, for day care (when they are not free) and for international adoption.
Advance of 3% and incentive of 1,000 euros
CC OO will study the salary homogenization proposal, waiting to have more detail, but they insist on the need to finalize agreements on social conditions, guarantees of a minimum of hours in part-time hiring and conciliation measures (weekends quality and weekly breaks), according to the union. Likewise, they have asked that the way in which the stores will participate in online sales and financial compensation for the development of said work be described “clearly”.
At the end of January, coinciding with the previous meeting with the unions, Inditex promised to pay an advance of 3% in the provinces with blocked agreements and without an agreed salary increase for 2023, in addition to guaranteeing and renewing the incentive of 1,000 euros for dependents agreed last November (600 euros in the case of less than 24 hours a week).
