According to Todos Pela Educação, cut in funds affects money destined for school infrastructure
Basic education will lose more than BRL 1 billion in funds blocked in the federal government budget, according to Todos Pela Educação. In a technical note released on Thursday (June 23, 2022) the entity analyzed that the blockade will also affect the authorized budget for the Enem (National High School Exam). In total, R$ 3.6 billion were blocked that would be destined to the folder. Of this amount, half was cut for higher education, 28% for basic education and 11% for vocational education and administration and charges.
The completion of the Enem test will also be affected by the block. The note disclosed that 23% of the available allocation for the test was blocked.
According to the note, basic education will lose a little more than R$ 1 billion with the budget cut, 80% of which in discretionary expenses and 20% in rapporteur amendments.
The cut affects expenses ranging from the acquisition of equipment to the structure of public schools. The entity analyzed that, in 2022, 80% of the allocation available for investment in infrastructure is composed of amendments by the rapporteur.
“UAn important function such as infrastructure depends on the rapporteur’s amendments evidences the absence of the MEC by not providingprovide satisfactory technical and financial support to States and Municipalities. The budget blockage that affects this action compromises the allocative capacity of the agency”says part of the note.
