Since March, 3,000 foreign organizations have suspended their activities in Russia, and 500 foreign enterprises have already been liquidated. This follows from the data of the Federal Service for Labor and Employment sent to the State Duma. Izvestia got acquainted with the documents.
According to the papers, by July the number of employees who are idle reached 125.5 thousand people, which is three times more than on March 1. Almost the same number of workers turned to Rostrud to protect their rights, but only 483 workers complained about foreign employers.
The government has already predicted that up to 200,000 people in Russia could lose their jobs in the third quarter. At the end of June, the trade union “Trade Unity” applied to the Cabinet of Ministers and the State Duma Committee on Labor. This happened after IKEA announced its intention to block its retail business in Russia and sell four factories.
According to the trade union, about 20,000 people are at risk of losing their jobs. Employees who fall under the dismissal will receive seven salaries, then reported in the Ministry of Industry and Trade. At the same time, the union suggested that officials and deputies speed up the consideration of the law on external management in order to transfer the IKEA business into the hands of domestic management – in this way, employees wanted to keep their jobs.
On August 30, the media wrote that another major employer – the Spanish company Zara – began to lay off employees. The trading network suspended sales in the spring and has not yet returned to active work. However, the press service of Inditex (which unites Zara, Pull & Bear and other brands) told Izvestia that the corporation does not carry out layoffs.
“Since the suspension of our retail activities in March, some employees have left the company by agreement of the parties,” said a representative of the retail chain.
