Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday appealed to US House of Representatives Speaker Mike Johnson to approve a “vital” military aid program for his country.
This program, worth $60 billion, has been stuck in Congress since last year.
Zelensky, who spoke by phone with this official, said, “I briefed Speaker Johnson on the situation on the battlefield.”
He added, according to the content of the conversation that he published on the Telegram application, “In this situation, the rapid approval of American aid to Ukraine in Congress is vital.”
Johnson, who is responsible for the bills that are put to a vote in the House of Representatives, confirmed last week that he is studying “a number of threads” regarding aid to Ukraine at a time when the Senate approved aid for Kiev.
The United States has been considered Kiev's main military supporter since the start of the current crisis in February 2022.
The last package of US military aid to Ukraine is still pending due to the reservations of Republican representatives supporting former President Donald Trump, who launched his election campaign to win a new presidential term.
