Alex Zanardi concluded the first cycle of treatments at the Ravenna Hyperbaric Center, under the direction of Doctor Pasquale Longobardi and the supervision of Doctor Costa, for decades the guardian angel of the MotoGP riders and a great friend of the former Bolognese rider. The same center had Mick Doohan among its patients after the Assen accident in 1992 and Valentino Rossi after a fractured tibia and fibula at Mugello 2010, from which he returned in record time. Today’s news is the conclusion, with good results, of the first cycle of therapies, which will be followed by a second one of shorter duration next spring. To give the news is the Courier Romagnawho spoke with Dr. Longobardi, who – while maintaining understandable privacy – gave an update on the state of health of the former Olympic handbike champion: “He is certainly a person with an immense charge: he passed it on to me. He came here with a great desire to work “.
Zanardi underwent physiotherapy sessions in a hyperbatic chamber for a month, which allow the patient to be stimulated with a mixture of oxygen and helium while exercising, with the aim of reactivating certain areas of the brain. The rehabilitation process was studied directly by Doctor Costa and by a dozen specialists who followed the Italian sample, who obtained results from the treatment, although the medical team did not understandably go into details. Alex Zanardi will now return home, awaiting the next course of treatment.
