The Canarian philologist and writer Yolanda Artenbia has died this Saturday at age 85. Born in Gran Canaria in 1939, she dedicated her professional career to analyze and disseminate the work of the novelist and dramatist Grancanario Benito Pérez Galdós.

The writer graduated in Philology and Letters from the University of La Laguna in 1961. He became Dean of the Faculty of Philology of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria between 1989 and 1999 and directed the Benito Pérez Galdós chair at the same university. He was also part of the Canarian Academy of the Language and was the CEO of Education of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria between 1999 and 2003.
Arencibia was part of the scientific committee of Galdosian international congresses has worked in the specialized organization of the last nine congresses. In the 2017 call she was appointed Galdosiana de Honor. In 2018 she was appointed member of the jury of the National Award of Spanish Letters, by the Conference of Rectors of the Spanish Universities (CRUE). In addition, she is a favorite daughter of Gran Canaria and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and adopted daughter of the Villa de Firgas.
