The US USS Samuel B. Roberts was sunk by Japan in 1944; it is almost 7000 meters from the surface
A US Navy ship that sank in 1944 during World War II was found off the coast of the Philippines at a depth of 6,895 meters. US company Caladan Oceanic located the wreckage of the ship during an expedition on June 18, 2022.

“At 6,895 meters, this is now the deepest wreck ever located and surveyed”he wrote.
On Friday (June 24), Vescoso published a video on his profile on twitter showing ship details: “It looks like her bow hit the sea floor with some force, causing some buckling. […] This little ship faced the best of the Japanese Navy, fighting them to the end”.

The USS Samuel B. Roberts sank on October 25, 1944, off the Philippine island of Samar, after a battle with Japanese troops. She was wrecked with 3 other US ships during the Battle of Leyte.
The US military was trying to free a colony occupied by the Asian country. The depth of the wreck (6,895 meters) exceeds that of the famous Titanic, which lies 3,840 meters on the surface, in the Atlantic Ocean.
