The Pirelli Emilia Romagna Round got off to a fantastic start for the Aruba.it Racing – Ducati team which celebrated the victory of Alvaro Bautista and the third place for Michael Rinaldi. After conquering a superb pole position, Bautista was the protagonist of a thrilling duel with Rea (Kawasaki) before finally taking the lead on lap 13 and closing with a wide margin under the checkered flag. Michael Rinaldi (who started from fifth position) had an incisive race pace but lost contact with the podium group, having to fight with Bassani (Ducati) for fourth position. After overtaking the Italian driver, however, Rinaldi went on the hunt for Razgatlioglu, then forced to stop five laps from the end due to a technical problem, thus conquering a precious podium in front of his fans.
Alvaro Bautista: “It was a good race with a great battle with Jonathan. I have to admit that the feeling with my Ducati has been fantastic since Friday. The higher temperature may have helped me but I felt like I could do really well. I’m happy because the race pace was really excellent despite never reaching my limit. It is a special victory for Aruba.it Racing, for Ducati and for all the fans. I hope I can entertain them tomorrow too“.
Michael Rinaldi: “I am very happy for this podium. It is an important result after a less than expected start to the championship and in which we weren’t able to find the right conditions to be competitive. Together with the team we have decided to change our working method and the direction taken is certainly the right one. We are not yet at 100% of potential but today’s race shows that we have made important steps forward“.
