In February 2019 the Williams had communicated the agreement with the telecommunications company ROKiT, which would have covered the role of title sponsor of the British team founded by Sir Frank, who recently passed away. But the partnership ended abruptly in May 2020, with the formalization of the immediate separation between the parties. The team had signed a five-year agreement with ROKiT that would not be respected by the business partner, so much so that Williams decided to sue the company for non-payments in early 2021, receiving a first part of the sum after a ruling by the London Court, which had allowed her to cash out 26.2 million pounds, plus a million bonuses. The defense of the telecommunications company concerned payments withheld as the Formula 1 team would not have fulfilled the contractual obligations stipulated at the time of the agreement.
Still running out of cash, Williams turned to Superior Court of Los Angeles, who evaluated the case and decreed the victory of the English team which will be entitled to a further payment of 35.7 million dollars by ROKiT, sanctioned for not respecting the contractual agreements in place. The economic crisis that occurred in the team at that time prompted Williams to look for new buyers, then concluding the sale agreement to the American private investment fund Dorilton Capital in August 2020.
