Fourth year in the points zone
The positive streak of results continues Williams at Monzaonce again in the points zone in a weekend that saw the absolute debut of Franco Colapinto in F1, with encouraging performances by the Argentine. In 2021 it was George Russell who finished in ninth positionjust like rookie De Vries the following year and Alex Albon on the final weekend, with the Anglo-Thai managing to outdo himself in 2022 with 7th place.
Back in the top 10
The Italian Grand Prix has thus given smiles to the historic Grove team in recent seasons, and this season for the first time since Silverstone, with Albon already promising in qualifying with a placing, also in that case, in ninth position: “It was a good race and I’m happy – he declared – I had the feeling that we did a good job, even though we struggled a lot with the tyres. The front left has always been a problem, so I had to manage it, and I couldn’t stop the graining, which has always been a problem for us. In the end, we did a good job to survive, counting on Magnussen’s penalty to get P9. Haas beat us this weekend on race pace, so we still have some work to do, but with another update coming soon we hope to be able to get back into the points rhythm for the remaining races of the season. Furthermore, Congratulations to Franco for the great racedid an impressive job in his first weekend in F1.”
Colapinto’s debut
Colapinto who, almost at the first attempt, equalled the best result achieved during this championship by Logan Sargeant, arriving 12th place at the finish line behind Fernando Alonso, the very one who discovered him and promoted him to his Academy: “I am very happy to have completed my first Formula 1 race, It’s a moment I’ll never forget – he added – the race was physically tough and now I’m a bit tired and sore, but there are many positives to consider. Before today I had never done more than eight laps in a row with the FW46 and today there were 53 due to the very high track temperatures. I think I did a good job of managing the tyres to make the one-stop work and the race pace was high. I’m really happy for the team. It was nice to give them a positive result in my first race after all the hard work they’ve done to get me up to speed this weekend. Of course there are still some things to work on, but I’m looking forward to getting back in the car in two weeks and racing again.”
