Robert Wickens has been discharged from Neuwied hospital, where he was hospitalized after the accident he was involved in on Saturday in the Nürburgring Langstrecken Series race.
The Canadian was taking part in the event on the Nordschleife with the Hyundai TCR to secure the license and then participate in the 24h which will take place on the weekend of 1-2 June.
But right at the end, for reasons that have not yet been clarified, the 35-year-old lost control of the Elantra #831 at the 'Hohenrain' chicane, going straight into the barriers, overturning, going over the fences and landing in the car park adjacent to the track, at that moment fortunately empty.
Always remaining conscious and alert, Wickens was immediately rescued and admitted to hospital, where he remained until yesterday for all the necessary tests, also because being a paraplegic the tests required particular in-depth analysis.
After three days the doctors gave him the green light to return home, breathing a sigh of relief at having escaped without any physical damage.

“Thank you again to everyone at the track and hospital for taking care of me over the last few days,” he wrote in a message on his social media.
“Today I will return home and prepare for our IMSA event which will be held at Laguna Seca in early May.”
“I can't wait to return to Germany in the future and face the Ring again.”
“Thanks to all the fans, my family and friends for all their messages. See you at the track soon.”
In the meantime, investigations into Hyundai continue at the headquarters of the Korean company in Alzenau; at this point it is unlikely that Wickens will be able to race the N24, given that he was unable to complete the minimum number of laps to obtain the license and, after the obvious rest period which will make him miss next weekend's Qualifying Race on the Inferno Green, he will be engaged in the IMSA Pilot Challenge with the Elantra of Bryan Herta Autosports to defend the title won last year.
