Experts advise taking this preventive measure when you buy a garment
When you finally buy a garment that you had your eye on for a long time because you couldn’t find your size or because you preferred to wait for the sales to make it cheaper, there is no time to lose to wear it for the first time. After arriving home, many want to see how they fit. However, before wearing it, it is advisable to wash it. This is a measure taken by some, but overlooked by most.
Apparently the clothes look perfect and smell wonderful. And that is why customers see no problem in putting it on as soon as they buy it. But if you don’t put it in the washing machine before using it, your health and especially your skin can be affected.
Why is it better to wash clothes before wearing them for the first time?
It is unhygienic not to take this precaution. This is the main reason to wash clothes before wearing them for the first time. During the hardest months of the coronavirus, to avoid contagion, stores did not allow customers to try on clothes. Now, with the return to normality, it is not considered necessary, but maintaining hygiene measures never hurts. You don’t know how many unknown people have tried on those jeans and how many hands it has passed before. Clothes sold in stores can pick up bacteria, parasites such as lice, fungus or dust.
Another reason to wash it before wearing it was given by the result of a thesis from the University of Stockholm, in Sweden. In this study it was found that new clothes contain thousands of chemicals, and some of the substances they identified were toxic to health. On the other hand, Dr. Philip M. Tierno warned that, after analyzing various garments, he found a large number of bacteria. Although the risk of contracting an infection is minimal, it is advisable to be cautious, especially when you have atopic skin or skin that is easily irritated.
