This Thursday, the United Kingdom announced new sanctions against seven Russian citizens. These sanctions include a freeze on assets, a ban on transactions with British individuals and companies, and a travel ban.

The measures announced by British Foreign Minister Liz Truss target the fortunes of Russian tycoons and add to the list of sanctions in reaction to the invasion of Ukraine by Vladimir Putin’s troops.

“Oligarchs and kleptocrats have no place in our economy or in our society. With their close ties to Putin, they are complicit in his aggression,” Truss said.
Perhaps the most representative figure in this group of seven millionaires is that of Román Abramóvich, owner of Chelsea FC.
“In view of the significant impact that today’s sanctions would have on Chelsea Football Club and the potential repercussions, the government has this morning issued a license to allow a number of football-related activities to continue at Chelsea.” executive in a statement.

It is unclear exactly what implications the median has on Abramovich’s ability to sell the football club to an individual or company outside of the UK.
