Spring is coming to an end, to the joy of allergy sufferers and the sadness of those in love with the fruits and vegetables that it gives us. To bid farewell to the season of flowers and unexpected rains, at El Comidista we have prepared this new weekly menu, full of easy, light and very appetizing dishes such as courgette salad in two textures with yogurt dressing, sardines in ajoblanco and a sautéed chicken with vegetables that is spectacular. For the Sunday plan we have reserved two recipes: a very Valencian ‘senyoret’ rice and a scandalous red fruit cake.
Monday June 13
SAUTEED CHICKEN WITH VEGETABLES
Making a stir-fry is the simplest thing in the world, but so that the result is not dry chicken and soft vegetables, you have to respect a few steps. Here is an infallible recipe.
Tuesday June 14
COLD COURGETTE AND SOUR APPLE CREAM
We kick off the season of cold soups with one that combines the freshness of the sour apple with the sweetness of the onion and the texture of the zucchini. The creaminess is at the expense of the yogurt.
CALAMARATA NAPOLETANA (PASTA WITH SQUID)
Squid and calamarata are the two main ingredients of this dish: the first is the mollusk, and the second, a pasta with its shape. Tomato, garlic and parsley are also invited to the party.
SEASONAL FRUIT: CHERRIES
Cherries are in season and at El Comidista we celebrate it by warming them up. But if you click on the link you will see several recipes in case you get bored of eating them alone.
Wednesday June 15
ORIENTAL CUCUMBER AND CASHEW SALAD
If you don’t like cucumber or it makes you feel bad, this is the salad that will reconcile you with this vegetable. Another good news: it takes exactly five minutes to make.
TRADITIONAL CATALAN CREAM
No, Catalan cream and custard are not the same. With this discussion resolved, all that remains is to prepare them at home with this recipe and enjoy their texture and flavor.
Thursday June 16
SARDINES IN AJOBLANCO
The imminent summer is the best time for this blue fish, rich in calcium and unsaturated fats. Enjoy it to the fullest in an easy and fresh recipe with marinated sardines accompanied by ajoblanco.
PEPPERS STUFFED WITH HAKE AND PRAWNS
They say that in the seventies the chef Ramón Roteta was the first to stuff piquillo peppers, that tasty Navarran variety. We have made a less stately version than yours with prawns and hake.
SEASONAL FRUIT: WATERMELON
It should have a yellowish stain where it has been in contact with the soil, and when you tap it with your fingers it should “feel hollow.”
Friday June 17
VALENCIAN TOMATO COCA
The dough of this uncovered Valencian coca is unfermented, so it is prepared in less time than others. Together with the tomato, the peppers, some pine nuts and the ‘tonyina de sorra’ (salty tuna belly) finish off the play.
SWEET AND SOUR PORK
Imagine a few pieces of tender sirloin, covered with a layer of crispy batter that tastes like churro and topped with the most luxurious and explosive sweet and sour sauce. That’s pretty much Chi Nanit’s “hip hop pig”.
Saturday June 18
CHICKEN ‘TONNATO’ IN SANDWICH
The sauce with tuna, mayonnaise and capers that accompanies the Italian dish that is usually accompanied with veal is also great with a tender cut of chicken, sprouts and sandwiched between two buns.
FRUIT OF THE SEASON: APRICOTS
It is a relative of the peach and the plum, it has very few calories, and a good amount of fiber that makes it a very satiating fruit.
Sunday June 19
‘SENYORET’ RICE
This typical rice from the Valencian Community is so named because the shellfish and fish are presented clean and peeled, so that the finer diners do not have to get their hands dirty.
PAVLOVA CAKE WITH RED FRUITS
Legend has it that a pastry chef created this cake inspired by a Russian ballerina. Although it is not true, this dessert is very tasty and you can also accompany it with chocolate, lemon cream or dulce de leche.
the drink of the weekend
HOMEMADE LEMON, WATERMELON AND HONEY SOFT DRINK
Why inflate yourself with Coca-Cola, Fanta, Pepsi and other industrial sugary drinks, when it’s so easy to make your own sodas at home with real fruit?
