President participates in the Bogotá International Book Fair and says that the SP Book Biennial will honor Colombia in September
The president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) said that the world “needs more books and fewer weapons”, this Wednesday (April 17, 2024) at the opening of the 36th International Book Fair in Bogotá, capital of Colombia. He also stated that the São Paulo Book Biennial will honor the neighboring country in September. Brazil was honored at the Colombian event.
“Reading is being free, even when they physically try to isolate and arrest us, because the fight for a fairer country, a dignified life and a united Latin America persists despite those who seek to impede the progress of our region. We need more books and fewer weapons. More knowledge, education, science and innovation”he said.
Lula also stated that Culture has been one of the main points of his 3rd government and said that Brazil and Colombia signed a cooperation agreement in the area.
“Brazil is deeply honored to be the honored country again, after our participation in 1995 and 2012. We will repay the kindness by honoring Colombia at the São Paulo Book Biennial, in September this year”he said.
The PT member invited those present to visit the Brazilian pavilion at the fair, with a book exhibition area for all ages and “a gastronomic area with typical Brazilian foods”.
“We will offer a diverse artistic and academic program, with samba, capoeira, cinema and Portuguese classes, showing the best that Brazil has to offer”he declared.
