Battlefield 2042, the new proposal of EA and DICE, promises to be one of the best experiences multiplayer of the franchise for this year. From its earliest trailers, this shooter in the first person it looked graphically spectacular, and although its gameplay It seemed not to stand out too much, I can tell you that, without a doubt, it is one of its strongest elements. I say the above because I already had the opportunity to play its beta, and in this article I will tell you how it seemed to me.
For this demo I only had the opportunity to test the mode Conquest, where 128 players face each other to take control of different areas throughout an extensive map. How big is this map? Well, it is a little smaller than that of Call of Duty: Warzone. At once I warn you that, due to the nature of the genre, there will be multiple comparisons with Call of duty throughout this article.
Before going into battle, you will have to choose between four different classes: Assault, Engineer, Medic and Sniper. Each of these classes has a perk the only one that gives you a certain advantage in combat. For example, the class of Assault have a hookshot that allows you to move around the map more easily, while the Sniper It has a drone that allows you to visualize the positions of the enemies. Out of these perks, you can customize your character with the weapons and gadgets you want.
Unlike other installments in the series, the class system in Battlefield 2042 It does not seem to matter much, but at the same time, you could say that it offers a much higher level of customization, which is always appreciated.
On Conquest you have two teams of 64 players each fighting to take control of the different zones. Each of these areas is far enough away from the other that you will have to walk quite a bit to get to the next one. At least in the beta I did not find many vehicles on the road, and although it is possible to summon a tank, jeep or assault vehicle at any time, there is a rare cooldown that the vast majority of times did not allow me to do so. Of course, once you play with your friends, it will be much easier to coordinate so that everyone can go in the same car together, but in my case that I was playing alone, getting a ride from strangers was never an option.
The real action begins when you reach each control zone, since on the way between them, you will hardly meet enemies. Sure, there will always be one or another enemy walking around or camping, but it almost never happened to me.
The good news is that when you die, there is the option for a member of your team to revive you. Personally, I was never revived and although there is a system to notify your allies that you need help, the truth is that I do not know how well it works when you play with strangers. Similarly, when doing respawn It is possible to appear in any of the areas that your team controls, and from there it is much more viable to move to others that need to be captured.
Now let’s go to combat, how does it work? Do the shots feel good? My answer to both of these questions is yes, and then I explain why. You’ll see, Call of Duty, Especially the last games, they have felt much more arcade in their mechanics; characters move faster, weapons fire more frequently, and weapons offer many more customization options. Instead, Battlefield 2042 bet on being something much more realistic, since the weapons definitely have a weight, the impact of the bullets feels much more important and the movement of the character in general is slower.
Although all of the above could be negative for some people, the truth is that Battlefield 2042 seems to have found a very good balance with these elements. Yes, it will be hard to get used to if you are a frequent player of Call of Duty, but it will take a few hours for you to feel like a fish in water again.
As for the weapons, each of them offers a certain level of customization, although it is not as extensive as in Call of duty. On Battlefield 2042 you can customize them with different sights, bullet cartridges, silencers and grips, but the options are not as many as in CoD. Another important difference between these two sagas is that in Battlefield 2042 you can customize your weapons in the middle of the map, thus giving you the ability to adapt to different situations. It is not possible to change weapons as is, but accessories can be changed.
The time to kill your enemies is also a bit longer, and unless you have very good aim, it will sometimes be necessary to unload an entire cartridge on an enemy to kill them. Sure, some weapons do more damage than others, but from what I could play, they are all very well balanced.
So will it be worth it Battlefield 2042? Despite having only played one mode, my time with the game was quite enjoyable and I did have fun. Obviously, there were a few glitches like lag, FPS drops, and some weird animations, but I’m confident that the vast majority of them will be resolved prior to launch. Battlefield 2042 paints to be an excellent shooter multiplayer, and I can’t wait to get the final product in my hands.
Battlefield 2042 will debut on November 19 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One and PC. Remember that the standard edition of the game will now also give you access to both versions of the title.
