“With regard to the German government’s decisions to support Ukraine, the United States welcomes all the support that is provided through our allies in NATO and the European Union and from all countries of the world,” Warburg said in exclusive statements to “Sky News Arabia”.
Earlier on Wednesday, German Chancellor Olaf Schultz said that his country will continue to increase military support to Ukraine, and will supply it with “Leopard 2” tanks, following “extensive consultations that took place with European and international partners,” in addition to training Ukrainian forces to use them, supported by logistical services. and ammunition needed to operate it.
The German move came in the wake of the announcement of the United States’ intention to send a significant number of “Abrams M1” tanks to Ukraine, according to the “Wall Street Journal”, quoting US officials.
Germany came under heavy criticism from Ukraine’s allies, after a meeting of Western military officials at the US “Ramsten” air base in western Germany last Friday failed to reach an agreement to send tanks.
And the US State Department spokesman went back to saying: “We and our allies are in contact with the Ukrainian government, and each country takes the decisions it deems appropriate, and deems appropriate for the current stage on the battlefield in Ukraine as well.”
He referred to important discussions that took place regarding the coordination of security and military support for Ukraine in Germany recently.
Warburg considered the continued Western support for Ukraine as “confirming the unity of ranks and the world in the face of Russian aggression, and affirming that the world stands by Kyiv.”
It was reported that the German chancellor decided to send at least 14 Leopard 2 tanks.
But Moscow considered Berlin’s decision “a very dangerous development that would move the conflict to a new stage.”
