VTV Sami Yläouti is proposed as VTV’s CEO

Yläoutinen has previously worked as the budget manager of the Ministry of Finance.

Parliamentary The Audit Committee nominates the Director General of the National Audit Office (VTV) Sami Yläoutista, the committee said in a statement. A total of 48 people applied for the position of CEO. The committee was unanimous in its decision.

Yläoutinen has been the budget manager of the Ministry of Finance since 2019. Since 1999, she has worked at the Ministry of Finance as head of the stability unit and economic policy coordinator. He holds a PhD in Economics.

The Director General of VTV will be elected at a plenary session of Parliament, the exact date of which will be confirmed later.

Parliament dismissed the former CEO Tytti Yli-Viikarin at the end of June. The decision was preceded by months of discussions about Yli-Viikari’s operations and the use of money in the management of the agency.

The decision to dismiss was historic, as Parliament has not previously had to intervene in the actions of the top management of an independent agency in a similar way.

The prosecutor raised in October Yli-Viikari is charged with breach of duty and fraud in payment instruments. The charges concern the use of Finnair Plus award points accrued from Yli-Viikari’s missions in 2016–2020 and the payment of private expenses in 2018–2020.

Yli-Viikaria and the director of VTV About Mikko Koira against the prosecutor has also been charged with aggravated abuse of office. In the alternative, the prosecutor demands punishment for the duo for breach of duty.

The charge of aggravated abuse of office concerns the termination of employment contract entered into with a VTV official in May 2016.

Yli-Viikari and Koiranen have denied having committed a crime.
