Vox signs with public money in the Balearic Islands an apologist for Francoism who was dismissed as a senior official in Aragon

A follower of the Spanish Legion, in December 2017 she shared a photograph on Facebook in which she appeared posing with a Franco flag in the background and, a year later, she hung a sign with Franco’s image next to the legend “the great dictator.” Esmeralda Pastor has just been appointed advisor to the Vox parliamentary group in the Balearic Islands, with a remuneration of 22,246 public euros, just two months after being dismissed as general director of Justice of the Executive of Aragon, a position she held for a year thanks to the agreement governance signed with the PP.

His appointment has been formalized by the president of the Chamber, Gabriel Le Senne (Vox), after reporting on the document recorded in this regard by the parliamentary spokesperson for Vox, Manuela Cañadas, who points out that Pastor will perform temporary staff functions and alleges that His remuneration “is appropriate to his dedication, responsibility and work that he must carry out full-time in the Parliament.”

The appointment, however, has begun to raise dust in the Balearic Islands: “Hiring well-known and recognized Francoists with public money should not be possible. With Vox in the Parliament, the Francoist drift continues, without complexes, of the main institution of our country,” the Més per Mallorca deputy Marta Carrió recriminates in a message published in ‘X’.

It should be remembered that Esmeralda Pastor was appointed general director of Justice of Aragon on August 31, 2023. Just a few days later the photograph came to light in which she appeared posing in front of a pre-constitutional flag with the shield of the eagle of San Juan, which which led PSOE, Podemos, Sumar and the Chunta Aragonesista (CHA) to demand his dismissal for “apology of Francoism” and to demand explanations from the regional president, Jorge Azcón.

Along with her he was also appointed general director of Hunting and Fishing Jorge Valerowho in the summer of 2018 published on his Facebook profile a Twitter message from the Legion remembering the birth of its founder, José Millán-Astray, which also read “Long live Spain! Long live the King! Long live the Legion!” Azcón even justified the maintenance of both general directors in office by arguing that the statements of these two public officials were prior to the exercise of their position.

From Podemos, they criticized the fact that the then person in charge of the Government of Aragon in matters of Justice posed “proudly in front of the flag of the Franco regime, a completely illegal flag that symbolizes the more than 40 years in which our country was immersed in a regime of terror, isolated from the world after a bloody civil war that left hundreds of thousands dead, missing, exiled, hunger and setbacks at all levels.” Similarly, the Socialist Party demanded Jorge Azcón’s “immediate” dismissal of Pastor for “not meeting constitutional values” and “flaunting Francoism” through his social networks.

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, also referred to her then, who regretted the images of Pastor and criticized that Azcón did not dismiss her by depending on Vox to form his Executive. After the controversial photographs came to light, the now Vox advisor in the Balearic Islands deleted the post that included the photo with the Francoist flag, as revealed by the Sumar Jorge Pueyo Plurinational Group.

Beyond his praise of Francoism, on April 18, 2020, Pastor also shared a meme in which, with a photograph of Pedro Sánchez and Pablo Iglesias, he mocked the Government’s measures to contain the COVID-19 pandemic. . The general director remained in office for more than a year, until September 19, when she was dismissed after the far-right party left the regional executives due to discrepancies in the management of the distribution of migrant minors.
