Golf, Tiguan, Passat, Arteon and Touareg: these are the five Volkswagen models that, starting from tomorrow, will no longer be able to be ordered in their declinations plug-in hybrids. This was announced by the German carmaker itself, which among the causes that led to this decision included the shortage of microchips and semiconductors and supply chain problems related to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Not only will orders be suspended until further notice, but the delivery of those already made it may not happen by the end of this year.
In recent days, Audi also announced that it would stop accepting orders for its plug-in hybrid models. Now it is Volkswagen’s turn, which has already taken some measures to counter the impact of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, including the temporary suspension of production in all plants located in the country led by Putin, as well as in some plants in Germany. In particular, the Wolfsburg headquarters will be inactive from 14 to 18 March, while the Zwickau plant that produces electric models will stop production until 18 March. Not only that: also the production sites in Hanover and Dresden e two plants in Poland could be affected by any measures, as announced by Volkswagen. The situation for the German brand is far from simple then.
