PT President declares that the Central Bank “sabotages” the country by reducing the pace of cutting the basic interest rate
The president of the PT, federal deputy Gleisi Hoffmann (PR), said that the cut in the basic interest rate, the Selic, by 0.25% this Wednesday (May 8, 2024) is a “crime against the country”.
There were 6 meetings in which the Copom (Monetary Policy Committee) of the BC (Central Bank) reduced the indicator by 0.5 percentage points (twice the current cut). In other words, there was a slowdown in relation to the policy that had been adopted by the institution since August 2023.
“The name of this is sabotage. Against development, against Brazil. This is the consequence of the BC’s ‘autonomy’, which allowed the extension of the mandate of a Bolsonarista leadership, which carries out politics and opposition to the government elected by the people”, declared Gleisi on his profile on X (former Twitter).
The federal deputy Lindberg Farias (PT-RJ) also criticized the cut. According to him, the 0.25% reduction is a “shame“.
“It’s something shameful. They do this to stop the Brazilian economy. I say again, this Roberto Campos Neto is a saboteur, it was clear from the beginning (…) he IS a Bolsonarista, he is rooting against it”, he said.
SHAME! COPOM reduces the Selic rate by just 0.25% and maintains Brazil with one of the highest interest rates in the world. Campos Neto continues to sabotage the Brazilian economy and President Lula’s government. He understands what’s happening. You need to react! #LowInterestsNow pic.twitter.com/QUzvfRA9ui
