The “Voices of Future Generations” competition for the Middle East region, the global creative writing competition for children, witnessed a large turnout, with 108 submissions, in both Arabic and English, during the early submission stage, which closed on April 10. There is an opportunity to register in the competition and present stories to children between 8 and 12 years old, until May 31.
and Voices of Future Generations, a unique writing initiative, created to promote sustainability and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. The initiative was launched for the first time under the auspices of UNESCO in 2015, and reached the Middle East region in 2019. The Emirates Literature Foundation is organizing the regional competition on behalf of Her Highness Sheikha Hessa bint Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Goodwill Ambassador for the initiative in the Arab Gulf region.
The number of participations during the early submission stage came as a positive indication of the promising and outstanding talents of the Arab Gulf region in the field of writing interested in investing their talents in finding sustainable solutions, guided by the United Nations goals for sustainable development and children’s rights, in an effort to build a better future for future generations. The competition is currently in its third year, and the competition has so far won 42 stories in an anthology group entitled “Young Voices from the Arabian Peninsula” and published by the Emirates Literature Foundation, in both Arabic and English.
The “Voices of Future Generations” competition receives entries in Arabic and English from children between the ages of 8 and 12, with stories suitable for children aged 6 and over. One of the conditions for participating in the competition is that the number of words in the story ranges between a minimum of 600 words and a maximum of 1500 words, and that the story includes one or more sustainable development goals, and that it reviews topics on children’s rights and the writer’s vision for a sustainable future.
