The celebration for the succession of the “French Rupert Murdoch”
Vincent Bollorè69, formalizes the handover of his media empire to his children: Yannickchairman of Vivendi’s supervisory board, ea Cyrille, CEO of the Bolloré group. It will be Ergué-Gabéric, the village near Quimper where in 1822 the story of the Bollorè group began, to host the party. It will start with a mass in the chapel of Kerdévot and then continue with a lunch in the family manor, with about 100 VIP guests. And, had it not been for Covid-19, the guests would have even been 700, as revealed by the entourage of the “French Rupert Murdoch”, as many call him in his homeland. Bolloré has decided to move to a particulier hotel on Boulevard de Montmorency, which he bought a few years ago.
The dispute of the collective “Stop Bollorè”
It will therefore be the children who manage a media empire of which they are part Canal +the all news channel Cnews, C8 and the assets of the Lagardère group: the Journal du Dimanche (Jdd), Paris Match, the publishing house Editisradio Europe 1. A real battleship, which arouses admiration, but also harsh criticism. It is called in fact “Stop Bolloré” the collective set up last December by trade unions (Cgt, Cfdt, Snj), associations (Attac, Solidaires), average (Les Jours, Politis, Reporterre..) and members of the left, from which a decidedly piqued complaint started: “In the publishing world alone, it will soon control over 70% of school textbooks, half of paperbacks, a hundred publishing houses, with an almost monopoly on the distribution of books. This media concentration is unprecedented in our history. It overturns all the democratic principles guaranteed by the Second World War, and all the advances in freedom of the press, in the right to information and in the media. A retrograde revolution is taking place before our incredulous eyes that we must urgently prevent ”. According to his detractors, Bollorè’s enterprise is “aimed at using economic power to control information, in order to acquire political power and establish a liberal and anti-democratic hegemony”.
