It looks like we won't be rid of Viaplay just yet…
The battle for Formula 1 rights for 2025 is even more exciting than the battle for the championship. Now that applies to a lot of things, but it doesn't matter. According to the latest reports from the rumor circuit (haha), the deal is done.
Two weeks ago we wrote that Ziggo will get the F1 rights back from 2025. GPBlog had heard this from a reliable source. However, there are now other reports (also from reliable sources, of course) that say that Viaplay has come out on top after all.
This news comes from GPToday, which heard this from “several sources”. Viaplay and FOM are said to have already concluded the deal and the official announcement would follow tomorrow. So we will know tomorrow whether this is all correct.
In addition to Viaplay and Ziggo, there would also be a third party in the race, namely Apple. They could thus make their streaming service Apple TV+ a lot more popular in one fell swoop. They are already involved in Formula 1, because the film with Brad Pitt is also produced by Apple and they are also coming up with a documentary about Hamilton.
Anyway, if the rumors are true, both Apple and Ziggo have been left behind and the rights remain in the hands of Viaplay. This means that Olav and Jack can also forget about their comeback. Again: if it's all true. To be continued…
