Government has decided that the tasks related to state vaccination research will be transferred from the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) to a company called Finvac oy.

This is a commercial vaccine research company based in Tampere, which was established by the Finnish state and the Tampere University Foundation in December.

The government gave the establishment a green light as early as December. It was reported at the time that the state would own 51 percent of the company.

The state invests EUR 6.7 million in the company as a majority shareholder.

The company the purpose is to strengthen Finnish vaccine research expertise. In addition, there is a desire to make a clearer distinction between commercial vaccine research services and the procurement of vaccines.

The tasks transferred from the plant to the company include contracts and offers related to vaccination activities. In addition, staff will be involved.

The company operates under the ownership guidance of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health (STM). The ministry estimates that the transfer of operations to the company will take place in September.
