Unvaccinated caregivers may have been assigned other jobs or been on unpaid leave. Some have chosen to resign and some are continuing their work normally.
In home care who worked as a community nurse Sanna Väätäinen, 38, everyday changed completely on Tuesday. As Väätäinen from Jämsä has not taken corona vaccinations, his employer ordered him to take unpaid leave.
“I am currently completely homeless at home,” says Väätäinen.
An amendment to the law came into force on Tuesday, which obliges employers to ensure the protection of social and health care workers against the coronavirus.
Those in close contact with at-risk groups must be practically vaccinated or have coronary heart disease. Unprotected people can do these jobs “only for a special reason”.
The purpose is to protect customers from infection. Chief Physician of the Department of Health and Welfare (THL) To Hanna Nohy admittedly, on Monday, HS stated that the obligation to vaccinate during the micron transformation could no longer be justified solely on the grounds of patient protection.
It is not known how many unvaccinated Sote workers are there. This is not the case for THL or trade unions. The government’s proposal in early December estimated that there were about 31,000 SOTE employees in Finland who had not received the first vaccination or contracted the disease. According to the government’s proposal, there were 256,000 employees in the social services in 2020. The figure also includes employees in the sector other than nurses or community nurses.

Law according to which the employer must offer the unvaccinated other jobs if possible. According to him, Sanna Väätäinen had practically two options.
“Get out or get vaccinated,” he describes.
Out in this context means unpaid leave. Väätäinen chose this option before the vaccine. Some employees in the social security sector have chosen to resign. Väätäinen says that he considered it too, but would prefer to be on study leave. At least the request has not yet been fulfilled.
Väätäinen will start her online studies at the beginning of March. He has no plans to return to the care sector at all.
“There are long-term dreams, from my youth and others, maybe my own company possibly sometimes,” Väätäinen says of his plans.
HS asked Sote workers about their experiences with the vaccination obligation. Some of the respondents also told about the change of sector.
Others have chosen to resign, some have been sent on unpaid leave like Väätäinen. Some have been able to continue their work in part.
HS only publishes questionnaire responses from respondents whose identities are known to the editor.
“I can’t practice medicine as a practitioner at a medical center. I have been present at the reception center for two years during Korona without getting sick or infecting anyone, and from now on I will no longer be able to work in the reception center. ” Doctor, 62
“Yths suspended payment of wages. Terveystalo said I am no longer allowed to work. I get no income from anything and I don’t get unemployment benefits. I’m empty. ” Dentist, 30
With employers however, there is still the possibility of using unvaccinated workers for a “special reason”. This could be, for example, a labor shortage.
In Tampere, for example, the unvaccinated continue to work in the city’s social and health services, he said Morning paper on tuesday.
Some of the respondents to the HS questionnaire also said that the work was continuing.
“I go on almost normally. They asked to avoid the worst patients. ” X – ray nurse, 51
“The jobs would run out, but since there is no replacement labor, I get to work. Everyone has to wear ffp3 masks because I’m such a dangerous person. ” Child Welfare Worker, 34
Väätäinen he thinks he has been treated coldly after finding out about his situation at work. He thinks information about it was slow.
“I’m used to a slightly more empathetic approach when working with people.”
According to the information received by Väätäinen, he is obliged to return to work with three days’ notice if he is invited to work by his employer. HS has seen Väätäinen’s written instructions from her employer.
Returning to work would also have occurred if Väätäinen had contracted a coronary disease confirmed by a laboratory test or had been vaccinated.
Why Väätä has no vaccinations? He is not confident that vaccinations have been studied enough yet. He says he is ready to be vaccinated later.
“I firmly believe I’m more science-friendly and don’t want to buy a pig in a sack. I want to wait, ”he says.
The vaccines used in Finland have been approved by the European Medicines Agency, and prior to approval, they have been tested in the same way as other medicines and vaccines.
Vaccine marketing authorizations in the EU are conditional for the time being, but Pfizer and Biontech’s Cominarty vaccine, for example, received a full marketing authorization in the United States in August.

For the survey respondents’ arguments for non-vaccination are similar. Many are concerned about the long-term side effects of vaccinations, for example, and some believe that they would not themselves suffer from coronary heart disease.
“At this age and in this health, I would rather get the disease than take a vaccine whose long-term effects we know nothing about.” Midwife, 43
For example, the U.S. Department of Disease CDCAccording to, vaccine side effects almost always appear within six weeks. The six-week time limit is based on research data, follow-up data from previous vaccinations and the coronary vaccine, and information on what the vaccine causes in the body.

There is also a spirit of rebellion in the air. Some say they have omitted vaccinations from the principle because they oppose the obligation.
“I took the first of my own free will, but since the compulsory vaccine came into effect, I don’t plan to take any more, I oppose the coercion. Also (thankfully) I got a corona from a client who had been vaccinated three times, so now I have half a year to work. I will not take any more vaccinations. ” Home care worker, 43
Väätäinen believes that a family of four will survive “just fine” for a few months. Her husband goes to work, and she herself has made arrangements.
“Fortunately, we have an installment flexibility in our mortgage. I also emptied just a few tons that I had saved for the fund. ”
Väätäinen does not believe that he is entitled to subsidies, and no other jobs can be taken in case he is called back to work.
“The feelings are such that we were expelled from society quite effectively.”
