After a series of electricity supply problems in São Paulo, Enel announced an investment plan of R$6.2 billion in the city. According to the company, the resources will be used to reinforce the team and modernize the infrastructure.

The announcement was made in a meeting on Monday (15) between mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB-SP), the global director of Enel, Alberto de Paoli, the president of Enel Brasil, Antonio Scala, and the director of external relations, Damian Popolo.
The plan includes “solutions that will contribute to reducing the number of power outages and the average customer service time”, according to Scala.
The promise comes in the wake of strong pressure from authorities on the company since last year, amid frequent problems with energy supply. In November 2023, a service interruption left people without electricity for almost a week, generating a R$165 million fine for Enel. In March, new problems in the underground network left several neighborhoods without power for several days.
Measures announced
Now, Enel plans to hire another 1,200 professionals over the next 12 months to reduce the average service time, in addition to expanding the teams in the field by more than four times, depending on the criticality of the weather alerts.
According to the company, the plan also includes preventive maintenance, replacement and modernization of equipment.
Another goal is to double the number of preventive prunings, to around 600,000 per year in the concession area. “Many obligations, especially tree pruning, depend on the prior action of Enel teams,” said Mayor Ricardo Nunes. “I will continue monitoring and demanding more commitment from the company, in addition to seeking changes from the Federal entity to the Law to expand this power on the part of City Hall,” he added.
“In view of the opening of a new dialogue and proposed emergency action protocol, my vote of confidence remains”, concluded Nunes.
