Zelensky confirmed that Russia resumed missile strikes at four in the morning local time, but that its forces were “prevented from advancing in most directions.”
Zelensky added in a televised speech that the Russian strikes targeted both military and civilian targets, according to “Reuters”.
He considered that “the sanctions imposed on Russia are not enough,” adding that “the world continues to watch what is happening in Ukraine from afar.”
And on Thursday night, the Ukrainian president said that Russian forces had infiltrated Kiev.
“We have received information about the entry of enemy sabotage groups into Kiev,” he said in a video message posted on the account of the Ukrainian presidency, calling on the population to be vigilant and to abide by the curfew.
Zelensky vowed to stay in Kiev, warning that “the enemy has identified me as the first target. My family is the second. They want to destroy Ukraine politically by destroying the head of state.”
And he indicated that 137 soldiers and civilians were killed in the fighting Thursday, and hundreds of others were wounded.
On Friday, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba condemned the launch of Russian missiles targeting Kiev at dawn, injuring at least 3 people, the day after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
“Horrific firing of Russian missiles at Kiev,” Kuleba wrote on Twitter, adding: “The last time our capital witnessed something like this was in 1941 when it was attacked by Nazi Germany, and Ukraine defeated that demon and it will defeat this demon as well.”
The ground forces of the Ukrainian army indicated on their Facebook account that there was a “rocket launch” targeting Kiev, stressing that they destroyed two of these missiles while they were in flight.
