Russian ships with nuclear weapons in the Baltic Sea
There Russia has begun deploying nuclear-armed tactical vessels in the Sea Baltic, for the first time in the last 30 years. This is what the Norwegian intelligence service writes in its annual report relaunched by the site Politic. “The basic part of the nuclear potential is on the submarines and surface ships of the Northern Fleet”, observed Oslo’s 007 adding that tactical nuclear weapons are “a particularly serious threat in various operational scenarios in which NATO countries could be involved”. Jets and helicopters massed on the Ukrainian border
According to Financial Times, citing two US administration officials, the Russians are massing fighters and helicopters on the border with Ukraine to support the new ground offensive. The news is not however, it was confirmed by the US Defense Secretary, Lloyd Austin, in the press conference at the conclusion of the meeting of the Contact Group for the defense of Ukraine. “We have a short window to help the Ukrainians prepare for the offensive. The Russian ground forces are pretty much on the corner, so it’s likely they will target the planes,” said a senior American official.
In the afternoon two Dutch F-25s have intercepted three Russian fighters near Polish airspace, escorting them out. This was announced by the Ministry of Defense in The Hague, according to which the Russian aircraft arrived from Kalilingrad, the Russian exclave on the Baltic Sea between Poland and Lithuania.
Bakhmut’s capture not ‘imminent’
The head of the Russian Wagner mercenary group, Yevgeniy Prigozhin, warned that the capture of the eastern Ukrainian city of Bakhmut is far from imminent. “Bakhmut will not be taken tomorrow, because there is strong resistance, the meat grinder is working,” Prigozhin said in a statement distributed on Wagner’s Telegram channel quoted by CNN. “For the mincer to work properly, it is impossible to suddenly start the celebrations. There will be no celebrations soon,” he added, later denying rumors that an encirclement of the city is imminent.
