In continuation of the Emirati humanitarian efforts, an aid plane was flown yesterday, carrying 50 tons of food aid, and medically equipped ambulances within a connected relief air bridge since last March, to contribute to meeting the humanitarian needs of Ukrainian refugees and displaced persons, to the city of Warsaw in Poland.
Salem Ahmed Salem Al Kaabi, UAE Ambassador to Ukraine, stated that the UAE supports efforts to reach a political solution to the crisis, and is keen to enhance regional and international security and stability, in addition to intensifying efforts to support the humanitarian needs of affected civilians in Ukraine.
He pointed out that “during the month of March, the UAE operated an airlift of humanitarian aid carrying tons of basic medical and food items that were delivered to the Ukrainian authorities in Poland to help Ukrainian refugees.”
He added: The UAE continues to provide relief support, based on the humanitarian approach and solidarity, to support international humanitarian relief efforts, help all peoples to overcome their humanitarian crises, and alleviate suffering, especially for women and children.
On the other hand, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitro Senek expressed his great gratitude for the Emirati efforts, saying: “Let me express my great gratitude and appreciation to the UAE leadership and the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for their immediate response to the humanitarian challenges in Ukraine.”
He added, “With every plane carrying medical aid and drugs, we see, in a concrete way, the humanitarian approach of the UAE leadership and its efforts to provide the necessary needs of the Ukrainian people affected by the war.”
This came after his meeting with Her Excellency Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Minister of State for International Cooperation, to discuss the latest developments on the Ukrainian arena, and ways to provide the necessary humanitarian support to the affected civilians.
The UAE confirmed this week before the UN Security Council that the ongoing negotiations between the parties are a positive development, encouraging the parties to ensure the full, equal and meaningful participation of women in all efforts to bring peace, while it reiterated its strong call for an immediate cessation of hostilities throughout Ukraine. , in order to allow for a constructive dialogue between the parties, and to end the suffering caused by this conflict.
She stressed the need to implement a gender-sensitive response approach in all humanitarian efforts during and after the conflict, noting the possibility of involving women and benefiting from them in the processes of providing and delivering humanitarian aid, services and efforts that implement programs, while placing their needs at the center of these efforts.
It also called, in this regard, on all parties to comply with their obligations in accordance with international humanitarian law, especially with regard to the protection of civilians, and to enable humanitarian access in a reasonable period of time and without hindrances.
The UAE highlighted the profound effects of this war on women and children around the world, starting with food insecurity and the high prices of basic commodities that women and girls around the world feel that their daily lives and their future may change suddenly. Therefore, there is a need, more than ever, for concerted efforts to prevent this from happening, according to the statement, as the risks of food insecurity and rising commodity prices will be very high.
“Since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, women and children have made up the vast majority of the 4.3 million people who have fled to neighboring countries, and there have been very disturbing reports of conflict-related sexual violence incidents and people falling prey to organized criminal gangs, which run human and sex trafficking gangs,” the UAE said.
