The German Police have arrested two alleged Russian agents and saboteurs in Bavaria by order of the Federal Prosecutor General, Jens Rommel, as announced by a spokesman for the public prosecution. The capture of the two spies working for an intelligence agency in Moscow occurred on Wednesday morning in the town of Bayreuth by special police forces, sources in the investigation highlighted. Until their arrest, the two men, apparently with dual Russian and German nationality, collected information about US military bases on German soil and prepared the sabotage of roads and highways usually used for the transport of war material destined for Ukraine.
The main accused and suspect has been identified as Dieter S., 39 years old and resident in Bavaria, whom the Federal Prosecutor's Office accuses, among other charges, of espionage, sabotage planning and collecting confidential information from military objects. The investigators of the case have revealed that Dieter S. has maintained close contact since October 2023 with agents of the Russian intelligence services in order to define and prepare acts of sabotage in this country. Apparently, the suspect showed himself willing in these meetings to carry out explosive and incendiary attacks against infrastructure for military use, but also against headquarters of the German arms industry.

The sabotage preparation was aimed mainly at communication routes for the transport of military material with the ultimate goal of undermining Germany's support for Ukraine. Investigations have also revealed that Dieter S. has systematically spied on and photographed US military bases in Germany in recent months and that he delivered the collected material to his interlocutors in the Russian intelligence services. In his espionage work he was also supported by Alexander J., 37 years old and also German of Russian origin, whom the Federal Prosecutor's Office also accuses of espionage for enemy secret services. Alexander J. was arrested as his partner in the town of Bayreuth.
Spiegel Online highlights that the focus of its activities was centered on the Bavarian American military base of Grafenwöhr, which has an important maneuver field and where the United States army trains Ukrainian soldiers in the handling, among other material, of tanks. Abrahams fighter. It further reveals that Dieter S. is not unknown to the German security forces. Between 2014 and 2016 he was part of a militia of pro-Russian separatists in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic, in eastern Ukraine, a unit that has been classified as a terrorist organization in Germany, which has led to the suspect also being accused of belonging to a terrorist organization abroad.
The fact that a firearm was found in his possession when he was captured adds more charges against him, since the Federal Prosecutor's Office considers him suspected of preparing an attack that threatens the security of the state. Both detainees were transferred on Wednesday to the town of Karlsruhe, also the headquarters of the Federal Prosecutor's Office, to be presented before an investigating judge of the Supreme Court and were placed in preventive detention shortly after.
