The Irkutsk Regional Court sentenced Pavel Shuvalov, known as the Tulunsky maniac, to 24 years in a maximum security colony for two of his three dozen rapes and two murders. On Monday, October 18, the correspondent of “Lenta.ru” reports.
The Tulun maniac was detained after another rape in January 2019. As Evgeny Karchevsky told “Lente.ru”, while the head of the “maniac group” of the Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation in the Irkutsk region, Pavel Shuvalov began to commit crimes in 1991, immediately after returning from the Soviet Army.
He was convicted of at least 27 rapes and two murders he committed – but only two rapes and two murders remained in the criminal case: the investigation of some of the sexual crimes continues, but for many of them the statute of limitations has expired. In addition, during the infamous Tulun flood, some of the materials and material evidence were lost, and some were irretrievably damaged.
The Tulun maniac committed all crimes according to exactly the same scheme: Pavel Shuvalov attacked the woman from the back, grabbed her neck with the bend of the elbow of one hand, and put a knife with the other, and dragged her to the side – into the basements of abandoned houses or just into the bushes. There he raped his victims. He killed two of them – according to the investigation, deliberately, but he himself claimed that it was accidental.
