The Minister of Territorial Policy and former president of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, has categorically denied from the Senate having received or requested 50,000 euros from the ‘Koldo plot’, as declared by the alleged achiever. Victor de Aldama in court, adding that he will resign if someone is able to demonstrate that he has asked for a “single euro” in his public work.
“The answer is a resounding no,” Torres conveyed when appearing this Thursday at the Senate investigative committee, in which, as he has been doing since Aldama’s judicial statement, he reiterated that the accused has not contributed “no proof” and has stressed that Koldo García Izaguirre, who would have requested that money to give it to Torres according to the businessman, has also denied it.
Torres has criticized that “it is a serious accusation” that “tarnishes the image of a person” and “it goes against his honor», recalling in this sense that they have filed a lawsuit against Aldama for his statements.
The minister has assured that he has “no dealings with him” and has specified that this does not mean that a photo may appear “with that person at a public event with more people.” «What I have to say clearly is that I have no relationship with Mr. Aldama, who said in court that he had a personal relationship with me, with ‘Victor Ángel’. He doesn’t even know my name», he added.
In response to questions from Vox senator Ángel Pelayo Gordillo, Minister Torres maintained that “you will never find any messagephone call or any other mechanism” in which you have asked anyone “not to get paid a commission for a certain job, but not even to ask for it”
«I abhor corruption», proclaimed Minister Torres, who has challenged someone to show proof that he has requested this money. “If anyone is able to prove that I have asked someone for a single euro in my public work, I will let it go,” he added.
In this context, whoever was president of the Canary Islands has insisted that Víctor de Aldama testified in court seven days ago today, calling on him to show the evidence that he says he has to prove his accusations.
«Why didn’t he show them the next day? We have been there for seven days. Therefore, with each passing day I believe that the person who has clearly lied in court becomes bigger,” Torres said in this sense.
Political intention
When asked about Aldama’s intention with his accusations, Torres referred to the interview that was conducted this Wednesday with the alleged organizer of the Koldo plot on the COPE network in which he spoke about a motion of censure.
For the minister, these words carry behind them a “political statement that has nothing to do with the matter” to which he made reference in court, suggesting a public intention on the part of Víctor de Aldama.
«Every accusation must have proofan evidence, because if not we are in a state of defenselessness, and this becomes a boomerang,” he denounced.
Sanitary material
During the appearance, Torres also spoke about the purchase of medical supplies with the company linked to the Koldo plot during his time in the Presidency of the Canary Islands, reaffirming his statement before the counterpart commission of Congress.
As he already did when appearing before the Congressional commission on the purchase of medical supplies during a pandemic, Torres has reaffirmed that “never” ordered that a specific company be contracted and that neither the then minister José Luis Ábalos nor his advisor Koldo García called him to award the masks to Soluciones de Gestión, the company at the center of the plot.
He has indicated that the Government of the Canary Islands received proposals to obtain material from “various people, from the public and not from the public.” «The important thing was that they made us the proposals. If they later profited from them, let those who have done it with the full weight of justice pay for it, and those who covered them up, those who protect them,” he added, to specify that it was the company itself that offered itself in a call and did not through Koldo.
“But in this specific case”, in reference to Management Solutions, “if we had had a slight imagination that someone could be profiting, what we would have done was go to court,” he assured, before emphasizing that the purchased material arrived and “it worked to save lives in the Canary Islands.”
