Guinea-Bissau-born Fati’s expiring contract included the option to extend the contract for another two years, but Barcelona wanted a longer commitment to the super-talent. That has now been completed, just like last week with Pedri. Just like with Pedri, the lump sum is no less than one billion euros.
Fati made the switch from the youth academy from Sevilla to Barcelona at the age of ten. In 2019 he made his debut in the first against Real Betis. Barely a month later, he scored his first goal, making him the youngest ever goalscorer for Barcelona at 16 years and 304 days.
The contract extension of Fati is a big boost for Koeman and follows after the first victory in the group stage of the Champions League. Dinamo Kiev was defeated 1-0 at home by a goal from Gerard Pique. Fati came on for Luuk de Jong in the second half.
