Toyota has decided not to spare itself with the sporty versions of its models, and in this sense the Tokyo Motor Show 2022 it is the perfect scenario to put all the cards on the table. The acronym GR, dedicated to the racing variants of the cars of the Japanese brand, was used for Yaris, for a new concept with the initials GT3, and also for the electric suv bZ4X.
Also in concept format, according to Toyota the model is a perfect balance between attention to the environment and driving pleasure. Fits larger tires, sport seats and a ‘matte’ body paint. These are the highlights of a vehicle that represents the Japanese brand’s first commitment in the world of full electric.
Recall that Toyota bZ4X, in its basic front-wheel drive version, is powered by a high-performance 150 kW electric motor. This power unit delivers 204 horsepower and 265 Nm of torque, enabling 0-100 km / h acceleration in 8.4 seconds and a top speed of 160 km / h. The all-wheel drive model, on the other hand, has a maximum power of 217.5 HP with 336 Nm of torque, the maximum speed is unchanged, while acceleration to 100 km / h is reduced to 7.7 seconds. The GR concept is assumed to have even better technical content, particularly in terms of weight.
The GR experience should bring improvements in all areas of the vehicle, not limited to the aerodynamic part. Therefore, in addition to weight and electric power, we expect a structure more devoted to performance and maneuverability, offsetting the typical characteristics of SUVs – usually not too similar to the agility of sedans and coupes. There is no further information, for now, coming from Toyota, on the marketing of this concept and its positioning in the electricity market. Certainly bZ4X in GR format aims to intercept those customers who, despite loving speed, cannot purchase excessively premium vehicles in terms of price and coat of arms.
