Yesterday, thousands of Yemenis participated in a demonstration in Taiz, condemning the continued violations of the Houthi terrorist militia against civilians in the city located in the southwest of the country.
The demonstration started on Jamal Street, the largest street in Taiz, at the invitation of activists and families of victims who were killed by Houthi militia fire, according to the Yemeni news agency “Saba”.
The demonstrators raised banners denouncing the killing and wounding of civilians by the Houthi coup plotters, despite the truce.
The massive popular demonstration confirmed, in a statement, that the UN truce turned into a cover for militia violations, targeting residential neighborhoods and killing children, women and civilians, calling for an end to the “deadly truce phase”, which represented an opportunity for militias to practice killing and destruction under the cover of the international community.
The demonstration also called on the UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, to assume his duties responsibly in following up the implementation of Security Council resolutions related to Yemen, foremost of which is Resolution 2216, and completing the implementation of the terms of the armistice agreement, including the ceasefire, stopping the military build-up of the terrorist Houthi militia, and opening all main roads in Taiz. And other provinces that the militias cut off in flagrant violation of civil and human rights and the payment of salaries to employees in the militia-controlled areas, from tax and customs revenues and land, air and sea ports.
In early June, the Yemeni government and the Houthi militia agreed to extend a humanitarian truce in the country for a period of two months, after the expiration of a similar previous truce that began on April 2.
Meanwhile, France expressed its strong condemnation of the Houthi terrorist attack on a residential neighborhood in the city of Taiz, and called on the militias to stop what it described as “blind violence” and choose the path of peace.
And on Saturday, the Taiz police reported that a child was killed and 12 others were wounded in a brutal shelling by the Houthi militia with a number of mortar shells on the densely populated Al-Rawda neighborhood in the city center.
The French embassy in Yemen said in a tweet on its Twitter page: “France strongly condemns the Houthi attack on civilians in Taiz, which resulted in the death of a child and the injury of others.”
She stressed “the need to stop this blind violence by the Houthis against the population.”
France also called on the terrorist Houthi militia to choose the path of peace instead of the path of war.
In this context, the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor said that the Houthi shelling of a residential neighborhood in Taiz, and causing the death of a child and wounding others, was an indiscriminate and unjustified attack.
The observatory added, in a statement, that this Houthi bombing contradicts the Houthis’ commitment to the armistice agreement.
He also stressed that “the residents of Taiz are waiting for the roads to open and the siege to be lifted, not more death and destruction.”
He called on the United Nations to play its role in monitoring compliance with the provisions of the armistice.
In another context, armed clashes between members of the Houthi militia in Ibb governorate led to the death and injury of 5 people.
Eyewitnesses said that 3 militiamen were killed and two others were wounded, as a result of inter-communal clashes that erupted in the village of “Al-Nahwi” in “Azlat Al-Arabiyin” in the “Al-Sayani” district, south of Ibb governorate.
The people added that a Houthi leader working in the militias’ preventive security, called “Abu Harb al-Masali”, came to the “Al-Arabyin” area with the aim of arresting a militia member, who refused to surrender, to exchange fire with them, which led to deaths and injuries on both sides.
