Huermur had urged the Autonomous Community to demand the removal of these elements from the promenade, considering that they violated the Cultural Heritage Law
The lighting poles installed by the Murcia City Council on the Paseo del Malecón, on the occasion of the celebration of the September Fair, were removed this Friday by municipal contract workers. This was reported by the Association for the Conservation of the Heritage of the Huerta de Murcia (Huermur), which celebrated the decision, considering that the placement of these poles, accompanied by spotlights and aerial wiring, violated the Cultural Heritage Law by affecting a protected asset (BIC) such as this promenade, “undermining its appreciation, since it does not guarantee its integrity and identity”. “Every intervention project on a BIC must incorporate a cultural memory,” they added from Huermur.
In fact, the conservation entity had submitted a letter this week to the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage of the Autonomous Community asking the Autonomous Administration if it had authorized said installation and urging, in any case, the withdrawal of these elements of the aforementioned BIC . Similar complaints had also been raised by other associations such as the Friends and Neighbors of the Malecón.
The installation of said lighting would have been requested by the Federation of Moors and Christians to facilitate the access of the attendees to the new site of the Medieval Camp, located for the first time in the existing dissuasive parking in the area in order to take pressure off the botanical garden . The request was accepted by General Services of the Consistory, which proceeded to undertake the assembly now withdrawn. Municipal sources report that this rectification has been chosen given that “until now, there is no regional permit and they are waiting for the General Directorate of Cultural Assets to expressly rule on the installation of pedestals.”
