A return to the track still to be experienced at home Alpinelike everyone engaged this Friday in the first two sessions of free practice for the Belgian Grand Prix. A decidedly particular climate within the French team, for the first time with Fernando Alonso already certain of the future in Aston Martin for next season and with the Piastri case still open, even if the matter will come to a conclusion on Monday 29 August at CRB of Geneva.
For the rest, exclusively as regards the outcome of the track, the Spaniard was the only one to have finished in the top ten, grabbing the 7th time at the end of PL2. A result that ‘avenges’ the 14th place of the morning, in a day summarized as follows by the two-time world champion: “First of all, it’s nice to be back – commented Alonso – driving Formula 1 cars in Spa-Francorchamps always gives adrenaline so it was a fun Friday. The modifications to the circuit are not very different from the previous ones, only the outflow areas are safer. We didn’t have stable weather conditions to test the tires, then we still have a couple of things to consider tomorrow in free practice 3. The car is doing quite well here, so let’s hope for another competitive weekend ”.
More disappointing, however, Esteban Ocon: the French never went beyond the 16th placeobtained both at the end of PL1 and the subsequent session, and the result of some problems analyzed as follows: “It’s good to be back in the car after the summer break, and it’s always a good feeling to drive on this classic track – he added – it was not an easy day. We had a problem with the drive shaft at the start of Free Practice 1, for which we lost most of the session, while Free Practice 2 was disturbed by weather conditions, so we could not run a regular schedule. Overall, we certainly have work to do, but today we have collected enough data to work well for tomorrow ”.
