As if Cala Mosca didn’t have little with the controversial urbanization works, this week an unexpected setback was added. The cove woke up partly flooded by a spill of unknown origin. Greenish in color, the City Council attested in person to what happened after a visit by the Councilor for the Coast, Manuel Mestre, at the hands of representatives of the Lomas and Cabo Roig Neighborhood Association. A field visit to determine the most urgent works that are still pending to be undertaken on the Oriolan coast.
The City Council, as confirmed to this newspaper, has commissioned a study from a biotechnology company to study the spill and determine its origin. According to Mestre, “the smell does not seem like fecal water, although we will have to wait for the tests to determine it,” he says with the hope that the beach will be back in perfect condition as soon as possible.
On the table there are several possibilities. Like most of the Oriolan beaches, Cala Mosca is located at the mouth of a boulevard. This is why it could be something normal as an effect of the last rains or, on the contrary, Mestre assures, some pipe break, since there are several that cross these channels between urbanizations.
According to the residents, cleaning services often remove the earth to erase any trace of spillage. Nearby, in addition, they demand that the railing of the Playa Flamenca promenade be replaced, corroded by humidity and awaiting a permit from Costas for its replacement.
