An EV as the ideal towing vehicle? Yes, of course.
If you’re looking for a great tow car, an EV is probably not the first thing you think of. Not entirely unjustified, because the range can suffer badly. And charging on the go is not your thing with a caravan or trailers. In addition, EVs often do not even have a towbar.
Nevertheless, an electric car for shorter distances (within the Netherlands) is a very suitable towing vehicle. You immediately have a mountain of torque. The EVs that have a towbar are often also four-wheel drive. The high weight is also beneficial in this case. What more could you want from a tow car?
The range of cars that are allowed to pull really large trailers is limited, but they do exist. We looked up three EVs that are ideal as a tow car.
Audi etron
The Audi e-tron was one of the first EVs where you could hang a serious trailer. With this car you can tow up to 1,800 kg and of course you always have quattro. Of course you have to have one that is equipped with a towbar, like this one gray e-tron 55 which is for sale for € 79,940. Otherwise you can always order an official Audi towbar for €1,948.
Mercedes EQC
The Mercedes EQC is a size smaller than the e-tron, but is not inferior to the Audi in terms of towing capacity. You can also tow a trailer or caravan up to 1,800 kg with this EV. With 760 Nm of torque, the EQC always comes out of its place, no matter what’s behind it. For €71,845 you can do this white copy with AMG styling and towbar hit the head.
Tesla Model X
Tesla not only scores high when it comes to range and acceleration of EVs. The Model X also excels when it comes to towing weight. This is one of the few EVs allowed to tow more than two tons. 2,268 kg to be exact. The detachable towbar is included as standard. Just look at this one black Model X 90Dwhich is for sale for €73,895.
