In the spring the Dutch Inter Milan seemed ready to change the air, but the first weeks of the transfer market did not offer any changes on his situation: in June 2023 his contract expires, there will be talk of a possible extension after the session is over
Inter’s priorities, at the moment, are other. On the board of the management there are several negotiations both incoming and outgoing and it is time to sprint at the end of June to provide Simone Inzaghi with a squad that is as complete as possible at the time of the meeting in Appiano Gentile. The future of Stefan De Vrij, however, remains in the balance at least in the medium term, due to a situation that seemed to take a different direction and which instead still remains nebulous.
Longing for abroad
–
With the end of the season and therefore of the championship approaching, rumors about the Dutchman’s desire to change scenery had become insistent, in particular with a look towards the Premier League. With a contract expiring in 2023 and a sure capital gain on the horizon, it was (and still is) an eventuality that would not have put the Nerazzurri in crisis. However, an offer from England was needed to facilitate everything: no risk of tantrums from the player, mind you, who has always been good in Milan. He never intended to put his foot down to leave, but rather would raise the issue in case of a strong candidate for his future. We are at the end of June and no club has really come forward: there was talk of Manchester United of compatriot Erik Ten Hag, but for now everything is silent. So, with Milan Skriniar towards the exit door, De Vrij is rightly considered to all intents and purposes the holder of Inter 2022-2023.
The prospects
–
To be clear, Dutch is certainly not a problem. He knows the three-man defense by heart and with Alessandro Bastoni he will help the possible new owner to memorize the tactical dictates. However, in a summer of renewal, a farewell to him cannot be excluded: the capital gain is precisely guaranteed since he was taken from Lazio on a free transfer in 2018 and the impression is that with a double-digit offer the Nerazzurri could sit down. at the negotiating table. As it expires in 2023, the Viale della Liberazione club cannot expect exaggerated figures, but considering that Nikola Milenkovic can free himself from Fiorentina for 15 million euros, the exchange of a 30-year-old with a 24-year-old already sailed at a similar price is a likely scenario. Also because in recent times De Vrij seems to have lost some of his solidity on some occasion. The talk for the renewal, however, has not yet started: first the priority was the extension of Skriniar, while now he will wait for the end of the transfer market as happened a year ago for Marcelo Brozovic and Ivan Perisic. And if De Vrij did not leave, the management would try to probe the margins of a negotiation: in all likelihood, however, the Dutchman will start the season with the contract expiring.
