Last week in Moscow Pashinyan was accused of provocation
Last week, October 18, a high-ranking RIA Novosti source in Moscow criticized Nikol Pashinyan’s speech in the European Parliament. The agency’s interlocutor said that Russia regards it as “absolutely irresponsible and provocative, especially as it relates to Russia and Russian-Armenian relations.”
The source indicated that the Prime Minister of Armenia is “taking leaps and bounds along the path of Vladimir Zelensky.”
The day before, on October 17, Nikol Pashinyan, speaking at a meeting of the European Parliament, said that the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) did not help Armenia during the conflict with Azerbaijan in 2021.
In May, the politician allowed the country to leave the CSTO if Yerevan considers it an “incompetent organization.” In September, he said that the external security systems in which Armenia is involved are ineffective.
In response, the first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots, Konstantin Zatulin, noted that the Prime Minister is consistently pursuing a policy to reduce Russia’s influence in Armenia.
State Duma deputy Alexei Chepa emphasized that Armenia’s possible withdrawal from the CSTO would be fraught with serious consequences for the country, and such a step would also be extremely unpleasant for Moscow. According to the parliamentarian, if such a decision is made, Pashinyan will not be able to retain power.
