The Second Season of is finally available on Netflix for a few days The Witcher, the famous series based on the novels of the same name, in which there is a death that many fans did not like, to which a showrunner gives an explanation. Obviously given the nature of this article, we invite you to see all the episodes, in order to avoid any kind of spoilers.
If the second season has brought a lot of theories about the future of the series, which we told you about in this article, a lot of fans have not swallowed the death of a certain character, which, however, has much deeper motivations. To say it is the showrunner Lauren Hissrich, who recently explained the reasons for this choice by the production team.
We’re talking about of the death of Eskel, who is killed in the second episode of the new season, one of the most beloved characters by fans who, however, had relatively little time on the screen. The showrunner talks about the motivations taken, in particular highlighting how originally the one who was to die was a new witcher, which however would not have made the story completely progress.
The choice to have Eskel die it was made after carefully thinking about the reactions of the various characters, especially of Geralt, who will change his way of doing within the second season. Henry Cavill himself, an actor who plays the famous witcher, had talked about the change of his character in the second season.
The statements of the same showrunner, regarding the death of Eskel in the Second Season of The Witcher, They are the following:
We knew we had to kill someone in that episode, we knew we wanted a monster to come into Kaer Morhen and have something to do with Ciri, and both Geralt and Vesemir and the brothers understand that bringing this girl into their Witcher Keep will fundamentally change things. And, in all honesty, the very first version of the script we wrote was a brand new witcher that we had never met before, that we had never heard of, and all of a sudden we were like … Oh, our audience will meet. Coen and Lambert and Eskel and, you know, John. And who will die? John will die. So we thought about it very well and I know there are fans who love Eskel and who feel like, why should we do that? But honestly, her death is what changes everything for Geralt and I think it spurs Geralt’s need to understand what’s going on with Ciri and to do it fast, because he knows he risks losing her and her brothers if he doesn’t. And we really wanted to motivate that character journey for him.
We just have to wait for the third season of the Netflix series, whose works seem to have already begun.
