State Duma Deputy Mikhail Sheremet responded to the calls of the former Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov to return Crimea by military means. His words convey RIA News…
“All these statements are sheer madness,” Sheremet stated. According to him, Ukraine should not try to seize Crimea, especially by military means, otherwise for Kiev everything will end “deplorably and fatally”. “I do not advise giving our armed forces a reason to show their might. The entire offensive of the Ukrainian army will end before it can begin, ”the deputy warned.
Earlier, the former Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov said that Kiev should be ready to return Crimea and Donbass by military means. He was surprised that Ukraine is not considering the scenario of a war over these territories, and urged the General Staff to develop a plan for their return using modern weapons.
In September, the Ukrainian government approved the Strategy for the de-occupation of Crimea. According to Prime Minister Denis Shmygal, the document was adopted as a “comprehensive road map” for the return of the peninsula.
Crimea became part of Russia in March 2014 after a referendum in which the overwhelming majority of those who voted in the region supported such a decision. Ukraine, the EU countries and the United States refused to recognize the results of the vote, calling the reunification of the peninsula with mainland Russia an annexation. The Russian authorities reject these allegations and insist that the accession procedure was in accordance with international law.
