Slovak Foreign Minister Ivan Korchok said that he intends on Tuesday to protest to Russian Ambassador to Bratislava Igor Bratchikov because of his participation in the rally of the Kurs-Social Democracy (KSD) party, dedicated to the 78th anniversary of the start of the Slovak National Uprising (START). ). On August 29, Korchok announced this on his Facebook page (owned by the Meta organization, recognized as extremist in Russia).
“The ambassador of the Russian Federation will be protested tomorrow (Tuesday – Ed.) because he supported the party (KSD), which openly cooperates with extremists who have never distanced themselves from the Holocaust, but who have hung black flags at the celebrations on the occasion of START ”, — wrote Korchok.
According to the head of the Slovak Foreign Ministry, the CSD party called to a “political rally under the guise of the celebrations of START” an official representative of the state, who, in his opinion, was guilty of the conflict in Ukraine.
Celebrations dedicated to the beginning of the Slovak National Uprising are traditionally held on August 29 in the city of Banska Bystrica with the participation of all the top leaders of the republic, as well as foreign guests from those countries that helped during the uprising. However, this year, “in the interests of safety,” the events were held without inviting guests and spectators.
Russian Ambassador Igor Bratchikov and Chargé d’Affaires of Belarus in Slovakia Igor Letun accepted the invitation of the KSD party and took part in the celebration of the anniversary of the START in the town of Zvolen, located near the town of Banska Bystrica, which in the fall of 1944 was also one of the centers of START. In this place, at the airfield “Three Oaks”, Soviet planes landed with a variety of help for the rebels.
The Russian Ambassador, in his speech at the rally, noted the contribution of the participants in the Slovak National Uprising to the victory over Nazi Nazism and laid a wreath at the main memorial cemetery of the city, where 17,280 Red Army soldiers are buried. In total, 63,518 soldiers of the Red Army died during the liberation of Slovakia from Nazism.
On August 27, in the city of Banska Bystrica, Ukrainian refugees tried to disrupt the Freedom Run action, dedicated to the memory of Soviet soldiers-liberators of the Great Patriotic War.
During the wreath-laying ceremony at the Memorial to the Heroes of the Red Army, Ukrainians tried to boo the procession, began shouting anti-Russian slogans and waving Ukrainian flags.
The Freedom Run campaign began on August 26 in Bratislava, and Russian Ambassador to Slovakia Igor Bratchikov took part in its opening. As part of the event, a column of motorcyclists made a trip to the places of military glory of Soviet soldiers.
